Attention to students in the Statistics Department’s Ph.D. Program who will be taking the Ph.D. Qualifying Exams during the Spring 2025–2026 semester

The Ph.D. Qualifying Exams consist of two stages: a written exam and an oral exam. For the written exam, which is the first stage, the courses for which the student will be tested are as follows:  

· IST5114 Mathematical Methods in Statistics

· IST5110 Advanced Regression Analysis

· IST6107 Introduction to Statistical Theory

· IST5123 Applied Regression Methods

· IST5106 Multivariate Statistical Methods

· IST5124 Nonparametric Statistical Methods

· IST5116 Games and Decision Making

- IST6113 Analysis of Categorical Data

- IST5101 Bayesian Data Analysis

- IST6106 Advanced Multivariate Statistical Methods

- IST5118 Applied Time Series

Ph.D. students in the Department of Statistics who are taking the Ph.D. Qualifying Exams will be responsible only for the courses in this pool and will be required to complete the written exam by answering 5 out of the 11 questions asked. The date of the qualifying written exam is listed below.

· Written Exam Date: Thursday, April 30, 2026

· Written Exam Time: 10:00 a.m.

· Written Exam Location: A1-01 Boutique Classroom

The oral proficiency exam, on the other hand, will be conducted in person by May 15, 2026, at the latest, depending on each student’s schedule.

· To pass the written portion, the student must score at least 70/100 on the written proficiency exam.

· A minimum score of 50/100 must be achieved on the oral proficiency exam.

· The written and oral exam sections each account for 50% of the total exam score.

· To pass, a student’s average score on the written and oral qualifying exams must be at least 70/100.
